During this pandemic, we appreciate your patience as we follow protocols to keep everyone—our community members and our staff—safe. We ask that you wear a mask at all times while you are in the library; if you do not have one, we have disposable masks available. We have reopened on a limited basis, and are ensuring that we follow all recommended health practices, including social distancing, disinfecting highly-trafficked areas, and wearing PPE. Thank you for your support of Decatur Public Library.
We will be handing out these weekly activity bags on Thursdays starting April 1, from 1:30pm to 5:30pm out in front of the library. They will be available one per family, while supplies last. These activity bags are 100% free thanks to the Wise Coalition for Healthy Children. If you want more information and resources on Child Abuse and Neglect, please visit Cook Children’s at https://cookchildrens.org/health-resources/safety/Pages/maltreatment-prevention.aspx

Week 2 | April 8th - Dinner Conversation
Week 3 | April 15th - Family Game Night
Week 4 | April 22nd - Gardening for Self-Care

Like previous years, certified AARP volunteers can help you prepare your taxes, but this year there is no in person tax preparation. Instead AARP volunteers can prepare your taxes online with a minimum amount of person-to-person contact. Tax Payer Responsibilities.
You can use a virtual - contact-free - method where all communication is done online. You will have to scan or photograph your tax documents and email them.
Alternatively you can use the - low-contact - method and come to the Decatur Public Library where a volunteer will scan your documents for you.
For each method:
You need an email address. You also need to be able to use Google Meet on your phone or your computer.
You need to make sure that we can prepare your tax return. You can check whether it is ‘in scope’ in the scope document (disponible en español ).
You can start contact-free tax preparation from this website. Click here to start an intake form. We want to be able to help you within a reasonable time. If we are too busy helping earlier clients the form may not be available right now and you have to try again later.
For low-contact tax preparation we can scan your documents on Mondays 10:30 am – 1:45 pm. You do have to make an appointment. Also, before you come to the library you have to fill out some forms. You can pick up the forms at the library or we can email them to you. You can make an appointment at the library front desk in person or by phone at (940) 393-0290.
Please give us complete documentation; your return is only as good as the informationyou provide.
We email you from AARP Tax-Aide Decatur TX email@example.com. Our phone calls may come from 617-675-4444 (Massachusetts) or from 817-382-2096. Please respond to those numbers.
